Eclipse Phase Second Edition Release Update
We passed this news onto our backers on Kickstarter several weeks ago, and to keep the public in the loop: Eclipse Phase Second Edition is late, and will be released in 2018. Response to the playtest has been spirited, and we're still working our way through rules issues and rewrites. An update to the playtest package was made available on November 16th, and more material is forthcoming. All of the book's art is in. We're tweaking and expanding the graphic design. And we're pushing forward with Kickstarter stretch goals and other Eclipse Phase projects. Eclipse Phase Second Edition Delays Our schedule for Eclipse Phase Second Edition was aggressive, and it got waylaid by several factors, some unexpected, and some just hit us harder than expected. Our long-term fans know that we've always operated on a slow-and-steady pace leading to high-quality books, and we will continue that in finishing Eclipse Phase Second Edition. Our most notably delay involves hiring a freelancer to handle art direction, a hire which did not pan out and put us several months behind in art. Rather than attempt to hire someone else for that position, we picked up the pieces and handled it in-house, diverting attention from other aspects of the book. All of the book's artwork is now in hand and looks great, from a mix of established Eclipse Phase artists and some great new ones! Pivo, by Mobo BoehemePivo, by Mobo Boeheme Playtest Update On November 16th we pushed out an update to the Open Playtest: revised Game Mechanics and Creating Character chapters. If you've already grabbed the playtest on DriveThruRPG, those files are available to you now. If not, you can download them here! As always, you can discuss the Open Playtest on our forums. We're currently working on the Mesh and Accelerated Future chapters, and taking into account feedback on both the Psi and the Action and Combat chapters. Updated Release Dates At this point, we are aiming to release the Eclipse Phase Second Edition PDF to backers in early 2018, with the print edition following by April. We understand that this is a significant delay from our original estimate. When it became obvious that the core book was behind schedule, we re-evaluated the entire release schedule for the Eclipse Phase Second Edition line. We still have an aggressive schedule that we are pushing forward with, including the core rulebook, all the stretch goals from this Kickstarter project, and titles that have yet to be announced or that aren't associated with the Kickstarter. It is important that our schedule keep moving forward on these projects, even if it means 100% of our attention isn't devoted to the Eclipse Phase Second Edition core rulebook, as the long-term success of the game line relies on support books following soon after the core rulebook. O'Neill Cylinder by Lorenz RuwweO'Neill Cylinder by Lorenz Ruwwe BackerKit and Pre-Orders We still intend to allow pre-orders of Eclipse Phase Second Edition via BackerKit. However, that functionality will not open up until closer to the release date. Quick-Start Rules The EP2 Quick-Start Rules with a new adventure, Acrimony, are available to download for free!

I feel that quality trumps speed of delivery in case of RPG games. And to be frank the thing I care about the most in EP2 case is mechanics. These cannot be thrown together hastily. And "aggressive" schedule with release date in 2017 sounded exactly like that. So i'm actually relieved that you pushed back the release.

The electronic version will be released before the print version. Backers will get the electronic version in advance of it going on sale to the general public. Pre-orders will be available via BackerKit closer to the release date. Exact timeline TBD.

Still taking playtest feedback?
Are you still taking playtest feedback? If so, what kind of feedback would be most useful? Major rule changes Minor rule changes Reorganization of rules without changing them Minor rewrites for clarity Typos

Yes, we just added a new chapter to the playtest today: The Mesh!

In order of usefulness, most to least: Minor rule changes Reorganization of rules without changing them Minor rewrites for clarity Major rule changes (Unless something is outright broken ... major rules changes at this point require a lot of work.) Typos

is there another playtest after the Mesh?
Is the Mesh the last playtest? And can we hope to see the alpha 3.2...err I mean the PDF for EP2 around late june, if that's the case? (yup, that was a Star Citizen reference there, also set to be released in alpha version 3.2 in late june)

I think The Mesh is, indeed, the last playtest document (remember whatever has not been upgraded uses 1st ed rules). I'm a little more interested in Harebrained's Battletech this month than in Star Citizen, though ;)

Mesh illustration
I was wondering if we'll get some visual for Mesh topography (and, no, I don't mean LOD, normals or UV mapping!), like how the Mesh is structured on Estropia, Titan or the Carnival of Goat.

Projections
As we approach the end of April, do the projections for the PDF and print remain the same? Or are they sitting at around June now?

Hey ,
Hey , me and my group wanted to start playing Eclipse Phase and we were wondering when the release of the 2nd edition would be, since from what I have read, it should have been last year and there is no date to be found. greets

Hey H4rl3y, I would say the answer is 'soon'. They're very active and still assembling it. GenCon is next month and that's a big timeline I'm sure they'll be gunning for. If you're debating between buying 1st edition or 2nd, I'd say hold onto your money. That said, 2nd edition is not radically different from 1st. If you want to run a game tonight, you can pick up the quick-start rules: http://www.eclipsephase.com/qsr Or run the 1st edition book, which you can also score for free under creative commons.

You will need the first edition books anyway, since the fluff will be unchanged (I assume it will be expanded, or duplicated, in 2nd ed). Fortunately, as it has just been mentioned, you can download the 1st ed books for free from the author's blog in wordpress, legally since it has been released from the beginning as Creative Commons.

first, thx for the answers :)
first, thx for the answers :) Yes I am already reading the 1st edition stuff for fluff :) Its just, that with new players, they might be a bit reluctant if I give them rules from the 1st edition to learn and then 2 months later give them new rules again :D Was just wondering if the release was "right around the corner" or "still in the stars" . But I guess I wait until Gen Con is over. Maybe there will be some announcement there.

#1 on my Posthuman priority
#1 on my Posthuman priority right now is delivering a handful of new stuff to the backers as part of the Backer Rules Preview and the first Nano Op. #2 is writing a blog post to bring the general public up to date about what's been going on. It's been so long since we've done such an update that it's a... big task. :)

Stats for Killjoy
In Grinder, you suggest "The recommended sample characters for this scene are the Firewall Rimward Ops team (Chi, Killjoy, Njál, Zahiri)." Zahiri is just Amal from the first playtest release and also Acrimony, and Chi and Njál were in Acrimony also. When will the stats for Killjoy be released?
