Pistol Whipping
Hi there. New guy here, so forgive me if this has been answered before. How do people handle pistol whipping and other forms of using ranged weapons as melee weapons? Would that fall under Clubs?

Yes, it would. I'd just use the stats for a regular club, too.

Improvised Penalty?
Do you think that there should be a penalty for it not being meant to be used like that? Should damage be applied to the gun as well?

Clubs are already sauce which
Clubs are already sauce which is so weak as to be nearly nonexistant. If you really want to get gritty on your players, then consulting the improvised weapon rules on page 202 leads me to conclude that pistol-whipping someone would be akin to smashing them with a wielded helmet or a wrench, and thus carries a DV of 1d10 + (SOM ÷ 10). Note that this is exactly the same amount of damage as simply punching them with your bare hands, so the only time this is any more useful a strategy than just making an unarmed kick is if your character has a higher Clubs than Unarmed skill. Note that as the actual section which mentions improvised weapons does not in any way specify any penalties to the weapon skill used, I would not assign any penalties for pistol-whipping someone, nor would I assign damage to the gun. If you do that, they'll just resort to unarmed attacks, because it would be literally superior in all ways to do so. So, in sum: I would just let a pistol-whipping do the same damage as a regular club, and wouldn't apply any penalties or damage to the pistol.

I'm gonna concur with
I'm gonna concur with ShadowDragon's assessment. Pistol Whipping should not be your go-to plan in any situation (except maybe for a positive modifier on a follow-up Intimidation check), but it is a thing that can happen, and is much more interesting than just punching someone. Use of improvised or just straight up club stats will be fine. You should only have it incur damage if the player does something really dumb with a pistol whip attempt, like trying to beat up a heavily armored synth or exoskeleton. Or they have a critical failure and smash the butt of their rifle into a hardened bulkhead or something.

The main benefit of pistol
The main benefit of pistol whipping is not breaking your hand. The skull is the hardest part of the body and fingers are small and fragile. And unless one has the hardened skeleton mod, they would probably be vulnerable to that. As for damage, You could probably either give it the same DV as a Club // 1d10 + 2 + (SOM ÷ 10) // or remove one from it. Clubs in EP pretty much cover anything blunt used to bash someone's head in sticks, lead pipes or saps.
