Schlock Mercenary
Protip: The most recent Schlock Mercenary is going very, very Eclipse Phase places. When unable to insert units via wormhole FTL drive, the Terragen military e-mailed a fork of a very, very scary specops type to over-write the mind of a sleeper agent working as a police officer. In addition to being shockingly dark, it's more or less dived wholly into the "They can do WHAT with technology?!!" pool, in ways that have only been hinted at before. Early on, this sort of thing was only barely hinted at, but if you like this kind of SF, you may enjoy the last couple acts of Schlock Mercenary.

Oh, believe me, I know. I actually sent Howard an email asking him what, exactly, was preventing someone from wrapping a weapon package around a 1-meter annie plant and installing a fork of a very veteran, very loyal soldier to run it. He didn't respond. :(
