It seems the Sci-fi channel might be getting the hint and going back to space opera instead of schlocky horror movies. And they're adapting John Scalzi's "Old Man's War" series, except they're calling it "Ghost Brigades" after the second book.
For those unfamiliar, it takes place in a future where humanity has colonized several systems but the Colonial Defense Force restricts emigration from Earth and cuts off communications between the colonies and homeworld, the only way most people from first world countries can get off-world is to enlist, at the age of 75. When John Perry enlists he discovers that the CDF downloads their troops into bio- and nano-enhanced bodies and throws them into humanity's eternal war with almost every species that can occupy the same environmental niches as them. Then he meets the "special forces" Ghost Brigade, including one who looks exactly like his years-dead wife.
