Help with a Cortex Plus Dramatic hack?
I'm trying to poke at a Cortex+ Dramatic hack of Eclipse Phase and could use some outside opinions. If you're not familiar with Cortex+ Dramatic, here's a brief overview of what I'm asking about: The system is based around more soap-opera-style play than action-based games. One of the central mechanics is that each roll uses a Value, which is sort of like a broad motivation for doing something. All characters have the same set of Values, but they have different opinions on them. So, for example, if one Value was Community, an anarchist might have a very positive value statement such as "Community is everything to me", while a hypercapitalist might have something more along the lines of "Who needs a happy little community when you have money". Values are supposed to be broad enough to apply to a wide range of actions, and the list of values should indicate what is going to be important in the game. So, to use the example above, having the value of Community means that game should have at least some focus on fitting in, balancing your personal life with your professional one, finding a place you belong, and things along those lines. So the selection of values for a game is fairly important. Now, the issue I'm having: I'm supposed to have 7 values. I have more than that, and I don't know which ones should stay. Furthermore, I'm not entirely certain about the word choices... so here's the list, and I'd like to hear from people as to what I should keep and what to cut: Authority / Power - A good general motivator as most characters have opinions on who should and should not have power Adaptability - Fits into themes of self-improvement, but also transhumanity's progress Community / Belonging - Good if you have a game that is frequently about hard choices and sacrificing for the greater good Discovery / Truth / Curiosity - Probably important for Firewall agents. Gotta poke your nose where it doesn't belong. Expertise - About being good at whatever it is you do Identity / Individuality - I figure this is a big theme that I can't really leave out Justice / Fairness - I'm iffy about this, but I think Firewall agents will have strong opinions on it, positive or negative Tradition - Kinda leaning to cut this or Adaptability, not sure which one should go. But it feels like remembering tradition vs looking forward is one of the central themes Other possibilities: Love / romance/ family (always a good generic motivator), Reputation / Fame / Influence (which might be better handled as a different mechanic than values), Sacrifice (could replace Community) So basically I need a list of seven. Explaining your reasoning would also help me a lot. Thanks in advance for those of you who help!

It seems like adaptability
It seems like adaptability and tradition could be reworked together. An idea that reflects looking towards the future or looking to the past for inspiration. A single word to sum that idea up escapes me at the moment.

Yeah... getting exactly the
Yeah... getting exactly the right word is where I run into trouble. I'll play around with the thesaurus for a while, but that sounds like a good idea.
