What IS Nova York?
Rimward expanded upon Nova York by giving the habitat a curious quirk; their credits systems is tied to their reputation system, and they refuse to muddy the economic waters by trading with outsiders. My question is, how does a player party interact with their economy? They aren't really anarchists since they use currency. They aren't extropians because they patently refuse to let the 'corps into their business. They have their own funny money that isn't worth anything anywhere else and can be destroyed by Youtube dislikes, which is almost as restrictive as the ancient Spartan's iron bar currency. Their main export is art and culture, which implies that they would have an audience outside of their tiny habitat, which they would trade with. What economic system IS this?

"Aside from the noyo and BdNY, Nova York largely functions along Extropian lines, with individuals contracting with private companies for security, insurance, legal code, and so on." It does sound strange, it seems like an experimental sort of economy.

It seems they consume
It seems they consume entertainment but produce art, which is itself a weird business thing by itself. But also that they aren't hostile to hypercorps, just that their weird economy makes hypercorps less interested in investing in the habitat. It also says that tourism is a big commodity and is what draws a lot of Hypercorp interest despite the weird economy.

Noyo are issued by the Banco de Nova York and based on their own rep network (Networking: Nova York; ñ-rep). When an individual enters Nova York, they are added to the BdNY's rep index to track their flux.

First: There are anarchist philosophies that encourage the use of currency, like anarcho-collectivists and anarcho-capitalists. Nova York is a prosumer planned-market anarcho-capitalist(?)* society that uses a currency based on reputation capital. Nova York is somewhat isolationist, and doesn't need anywhere else's money to be useful because the currency is pegged to their own rep index, instead of floating rep, like the other big Rep networks. The point is to be restrictive. Since they can very well gather their own resources, Nova York doesn't need to trade. The life of a noyo is short, between 1 and 3 months depending on the rep flux from the individuals who owned it. Most would be dispersed through the hab by BdNY contracts and subsidies (I imagine a Nova York Kickstarter that the BdNY would match donations). At the end of a noyo's life, it devalues to zero and would be returned to BdNY for analysis. Noyos are issued by the BdNY, and I have been thinking about how they could do this to those who are visiting. One of the ideas I had would be a type of stimulus where they give tourists and visitors noyos. Since they can't take the noyos with them, they would spend it on whatever they felt like or cool stuff they wanted to take back with them. Do you want to spend enough noyos to get someone situated in Nova York on a single week long vacation? An ego could attend exhibits, unbelievable zero-g acrobatics, and dine on handmade avante-garde dishes or have the best sex in the Belt with a cadre of contortionists! And it would only cost the farcasting charges or fuel mass. Then an ego could return to its own habitat without having burned any favours or spent a single credit. *Originally, I thought of anarcho-capitalism, but controlled market wipes that off the table. While anarcho-mutualist was considered, the private property aspect of Nova York doesn't fit. I almost went with anarcho-syndicalism because it encourages citizen self-activity—but it is still eh. So I went back to anarcho-capitalism and added the caveate of the obviously planned market. It does outline that they are quite ancap in the description.
