Funny thing from a Traveller writer
So I occasionally write for Mongoose Traveller. This was probably a couple years back when I actually wrote a few articles for that system that are sort of funny to me in hindsight. The first funny article is a two-part adventure series that I wrote for them where the player group is charged with testing a new AR game (I wrote this before the term AR was in use, so it doesn't appear in the adventure) and find a devious hacker capable of uploading his conscious to a digital bodies (and later into the body of most any game player). The second article that is humorous in hindsight is a new species that I created for Traveller. They were aquatic. In my mind (and the rough draft) I referred to them as uplifted octopi. Octopi are my favorite animal and they weren't represented in Traveller, so I tried to put them there. Well, the article was accepted, contingent on the new race not being octopi. Why is this all funny to me? A while back I discovered Eclipse Phase. Basically Eclipse Phase reminds me of what I wanted to bring to Traveller. I felt that their version of the future, while entertaining, didn't completely reflect all the possibilities facing humanity. I was not familiar with Transhumanism back then, despite being an avid SF fan. My tastes ran more towards steampunk, historical fiction and generic space opera. I had been pondering current tech innovations and where they will take us in the near future and a lot of the conclusions that I'd come up with are present in EP. EP really excites me, and I'm looking forward to getting more familiar with it, as it seems to be an exact manifestation of a lot of ideas that I've had running in my mind for years.

EP excites me for idea
EP excites me for idea-manifestation reasons as well. An (un?)healthy dose of lethal horror and post-apocalyptic dread in my transhumanism? A sci-fi worthy of masters like Zamyatin, Le Guin, Macleod, Banks, Matiasz, Stross and Danvers (and Bruce Sterling, if you reach specifically into Islands in the Net, and practically every author in the So Long Been Dreaming anthology, especially devorah major and Nisi Shawl)? Count me in until the day I die. It makes me want to fork myself so I can run a game every day of the week.
