Homebrewing a Morph
This is my first time running Eclipse Phase, and I'm in love with the setting. One of the players in my group wants to start with very particular synthmorph with no close equivalent in the given examples, and I got bit by the customization bug. Now, I've seen custom morphs in EP blogs before, complete with Creation Point costs. These costs don't seem to be following the same rules as the rest of character creation, so how do I properly balance the cost? What does an aptitude boost cost? What about higher maximum aptitudes? Movement rates? And perhaps most importantly, how do I rein myself in so I don't stuff the morph with so much non-essential junk as default features? I'm trying to keep this somewhat cheaper than a Reaper, but it's going to be a relatively large flyer...

Try to mimic the existing ones, seek "The Eye" a fanzine about Eclipse Phase, they even had a dragon morph in one of the editions.

OK, so you have a couple of
OK, so you have a couple of options, but first an explanation. You are correct in saying that the general CP costs involved in building a custom morph don't line up with those you would expect from character creation. At least I know that that is true for any of the creation rules that I wrote (which, before the release of Transhuman, were the most widely used, at least to my understanding). The CP costs used were derived from the morphs that the official rules provide. Your most 'official' option is to use the new Custom Morph Creation rules from the latest supplement, Transhuman. If you don't currently have access to Transhuman you can download it for free from the internet (legally, that is). This https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B9I5phZVL8P2VHdWQlZscUFrcHM&usp=... Google Drive has it, for example. Using the official rules will give you an easy to follow rule set that will put out a morph that is fairly well balanced. They are at the very back. I don't really like those rules though, and choose to use the ones that I wrote a few years ago. They will also put out a fairly well balanced morph, however they do so using a slightly different method. I actually prefer the CP values that my own system pushes out (I believe them to be better balanced), but that is mostly a matter of personal taste. You can find a version of those rules in this http://eclipsephase.com/downloads/The_Eye_Fanzine_Issue003.pdf issue of The Eye. They are also at the very end of the issue. Ugh. You ever read something you wrote years ago and think “Dear god, I am a terrible writer”? I really need to rewrite some of my articles from The Eye...

Thank you, folks
That was extremely helpful, AND a very fast response. Do any of you think this thread should be pinned in case someone else asks the same question?
