Custom Devices (Ranged Nano-Detector)
Greetings, fellow Sentinels. I'm sure you've all been there: you're exploring a Lunar cave or the Martian outback when suddenly your suit's nano-detector goes off. This leaves you about 10 seconds to say your good-byes while your suit is breached and, if you're lucky, your body is returned to base carbon. Well, a buddy of mine had this idea after watching his backup insurance rates steadily go up due to being disassembled a few too many times. I don't have any schematics at the moment but the basic idea is the same: a nano-detector you can throw or fire into a potential hot zone while giving you a clear indication of safe/not safe. What you need: A nano-detector. Some sort of perforated housing (an empty grenade casing works for this, provided you have something to perforate it with). A decent knowledge of electronics hardware. The basic idea is that you gut the nano-detector, preserving only its battery, sensor module, and interface screen. This next part may depend on your model of detector, but you want to wire the sensor module up to the interface screen so that a positive detection will cause the interface panel to light up. If you have any LED lights lying around you could use those in place of the screen. Enclose the device in metal housing, but ensure that it is perforated so the nano-detector can still do its job. Then simply toss into a suspected hot zone. Retrieve if your detector comes back clean. Rinse, repeat. Disclaimer: your nano-detector may require that you edit its programming before this would work, so YMMV. We've had some ideas about putting some of these things into sticky grenades or a seeker payload, but no working prototypes as of yet. Anyhow, these things have saved our butts more than once so I thought I'd get the word out. Do you all have any custom devices to share?

Isn't it possible to have a Guardian Swarm either swarm around you or go ahead? Electric Sense and Nanoscopic Vision could potentially offer long range detection. Remember to carry an EMP granade on you, detonate it without throwing, you'll loose communication, but they take a big hit. Most electronics, including synths are immune to EMP, but not nanites.

i'm thinking put the sensor on a remote creepy or other small, cheep drone. have several of them a few meters a head of you at all times. not everywhere that is contaminated looks suspect.

Yeah. A lot of the times, TITAN nanoswarms are totally invisible to anything but nanoscopic vision, and you have no way of telling until your medichines start telling you that you've been infected and it's time to blow your brains out before you turn into a slavering monster and attack your team-mates, or, worse, turn into a totally-normal looking TITAN sleeper agent.
