Muses here already?
Ok, not Muses as such, but a very interesting first step: http://singularityhub.com/2012/12/13/patented-book-writing-system-lets-o... Essentially, a program has been developed to collect data regarding a theme it has been asked to. Then it will provide a readable book on the subject, in less than half an hour (I suppose that is hardware-dependant, but still...). Now I do remember a program that was able to "eat" all of Traveller's gaming manuals, and to win 2 space-battle championships of that game in a row spitting a winning combination of ships to form a fleet (declining to keep participating since the organization said that if that program won a third time, they would discontinue the championship). Merge the two together... (also the way it designed the two armadas is very AI-like). So, thoughts on this? :)

Eh. What he has done is very impressive, but all of the produced books seem to follow an extremely similar tone; they are all technical works. Not that I am saying that technical writing is particularly easy (I am terrible at it, for example), however it does tend to be formulaic, which is perfect for a computer to generate. But there is currently no real creativity involved. It is certainly one aspect of the Muse. The ability to consume large databases of material and compound it all into a manageable and usable work. But it is perhaps the least technically difficult aspect, outside of its simple secretarial work. Your second example is simply an AI structure solving and playing a game. Travellers space battle rules are childs play for such a system. While I cannot wait for personal Muses, they would no doubt improve my life significantly (curse you, Dyspraxia!), I think we are a long, long, loooooong way off from anything that even closely resembles what the EP Muse is capable of.

According to reviews, the content of these books are frequently random nonsense. When they're not, they're just the pertinent Wikipedia pages repackaged into something you pay money for. It's not terribly impressive, unfortunately.

I found it hilarious that they created a 90 page book about me, based on my Wikipedia page. *I* couldn't write 90 pages about myself.
