A lot of the slightly less

A lot of the slightly less Earthlike planets of 2300AD make good EP exoplanets. I am fond of Aurora (replace the Kafers with some exhumans). That is a very well developed planet. I am also a fan of Cold Mountain. Syuhlahm's modular biology is also really cool.

Hmm, I would consider two ways of replacing Kafers A-as an alien species on its own, but even more sophisticated-their self-awareness and intelligence only emerges when they are under a threat or under certain specific conditions B-as exhumans who tweaked themselves to become such beings Both are a good way to escape notice by intelligence-hunting ETI probes.

The Ebers are interesting, comparable to the Iktomi in being a recently fallen technological species but distinct in having surviving societies. Their ersatz homeworld of Komoran is nicely detailed. Kie-Yuma is an interesting enough pre-garden world. And, of course, there's AGRA in the Pleiades, quietly doing what it will ...

I like the idea of Kafers

I like the idea of Kafers being a species that figured out how to escape the depredations of the ETI by making its intelligence variable. Reminds me a bit of a certain species in Neal Asher's universe... 2300AD has quite a lot of useful material. The spacecraft might not be FTL in EP, but still largely make sense. The Pentapods and the Factors would probably be best friends ("Green zestiness! Human confusion: scrumptious!"). Many of the colony worlds are ready-made environments to drop gatecrashers onto. The Nyotekundu sourcebook has a pretty EP-usable adventure.

The polytaxic nature of Ylii

The polytaxic nature of Ylii civilization--briefly, for non-2300ADers, a civilization founded not on a single species that achieved sentience but rather on a whole genus that achieved sentience collectively, each to different degrees and filling different niches--strikes me as sufficiently alien. I also wonder if the Sung might be of note as a pre-singularity spacefaring culture, just on the verge of discovering that the galaxy is far more hostile than their believed. As for exoplanets, the Paulo/Pedro binary is interesting. Why does Paulo support a diverse Earth-like biosphere while Pedro, so similar in every other way, doesn't support any life? Shades of Echo IV/V, perhaps?

Could we change the title

Could we change the title from 2300AD planets to Exoplanets or Proposals for planets ? I have a tonne of interesting planet proposals and examples from other games and I think such a thread would be interesting. If not I could start another thread, but that would be a bit wasteful.

Speaking of different planets

Speaking of different planets and exoplanet types, is a hollow earth type planet even physically possible? Granted this is reaching into fantasy quite a bit but, I was always curious about the math of it. Essentially a small star contained within the crust of a planet? Even feasible?

Not in the slightest. The smallest star (as in, has sustained internal fusion due to gravitation contraction) possible is a red dwarf, which, while small for a star, is still about 1/12th the mass of the sun, or about a mass of 30,000 earths. Jupiter has a mass of "only" 317 earths, for comparison's sake. That's just the volume requirements! Now as for the "hollow" part of the "hollow earth", sheer absurdity. Stone and silicates in general have terrible compressive strength, especially when heated. Planets are spheres for the simple physics reason that a sphere has the minimum surface area for a given volume, and that's the work of gravity. Literally the planet squeezes in on itself until it can't anymore. Take away the internal volume support (the mantle and core) and the crust will start collapsing in on itself because its not supported anymore and has no where near the strength necessary to be able to do so. So the idea of a self-supporting shell of stone--or, really, any natural material--around a small star is absurd on so many levels. Now, if someone significantly higher on the Kardashev scale than we are decided that they wanted to build such a thing, they certainly could. And what you'd end up with is something like the planet Olaf from Gatecrashing, which is a Dyson Sphere, a shell built around a small star, where the surface of the shell is at around the 1 gravity level from the star. It's absurdly large (a sphere with a surface area of 25,000 earths, or in the neighborhood of two million kilometers in diameter) and absurdly advanced (it's a solid shell two million kilometers across holding a star on the inside)
