Writing Eclipse Phase Stories
A quick question: Since Eclipse Phase is is Creative Commons, would it be alright if I used the Eclipse Phase universe as a setting for a NaNoWriMo novel? I'm not planning on publishing it for money--I'm mostly doing it to get a feel for the setting and to polish my writing skills at the same time. And to have fun, of course. :) And, if it's alright to write, I gotta ask: would people be interested in reading any EP story I write, if I put it up on my Google Docs or on this forum? (I've got some notes and a fairly solid outline for a NaNoWriMo story already, and since EP is in Creative Commons, I thought that it would be fine if I wrote a novel just for the fun of it, not for money, but one of the other NaNo'ers at the kickoff last night made a fairly convincing argument for me to cover my ass and check first before I went any further. So, here I am, CYA'ing)

I'm sure it would be okay? It
I'm sure it would be okay? It's Attribution-NonCommercial-share alike, so don't make cash off it and you should be fine.
Somebody is using bad science! Snark, facts, snark. Your body is corrupted: Cool, do more science to it. Your mind is warped: That's nice, want a cookie? What do we say to the God of Death? Not today!

RustedPantheress is right. So
RustedPantheress is right. So long as you don't plan to make it a commercial project, you have free reign to do with the material as you please. And who knows? If it's good enough, maybe the Eclipse Phase devs will be willing to publish it under their wing, and you can make royalties. Isn't the Creative Commons license awesome?

Well that's good to hear. I
Well that's good to hear. I mean, I was 99% certain that was the case, but... *shrug* It pays to be certain, given how lawsuit-happy IP holders can be. And I doubt it'll be good enough... but that can give me something to shoot for! Heh :D And, yes, Creative Commons is awesome. As for my story, I'm currently 12k in. (NaNoWriMo progress tracker here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/en/participants/bibliophile20/novels/eclipse-ph...) Anyone interested in giving a read, either now or when I'm done? Shoot me a message and I'll give you viewing access on the Google Doc. Now, back to work. I have a personal goal of 15k words by the end of the day that I want to make...

*blink* *blink*
*blink* *blink* Well, I've hit the 50k mark and I'm still only about half-way into the story--and the month, so I'm going to keep writing. If anyone's interested in giving it a read, here's the link to the Google Doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1coyPlPj4b5KpfODCpa9zt6atzBujDr4VzDB-... If you do take the time to look it over, I just have two things to ask: first, remember that this is still a first draft; editing can wait until December, after NaNoWriMo is over. second, however, just because I won't be editing stuff immediately doesn't mean I don't want feedback. Please tell me what you think about the story!
