Space Whale (Custom Morph)
With the new content in Rimward, I'm considering a space-adapated Blue Whale morph for an uplift character in Saturn's rings. It's expensive and unlikely to see much use in gameplay, but I can't get the concept out of my head, so I thought I'd share. Theory: Only 39 neo-whales made it off Earth (PO 110), only 5 calves with bodies, of which one was a Blue Whale. My character concept is one of the other few Blue Neo-Whales to have escaped earth as an info-morph. Eventually making his way to the Saturn system, likely among the Argonauts. With enough rep, and likely a price cut for getting to work with rare neo-whale genetics... especially in the Saturn system, he convinces a skilled morph designer studio on Profunda (Rim 74) to not only make a Neo-Whale body, but to make one with Ring Flyer (Rim 187) like adjustments. Essentially a whale-body able to live in Saturn's rings about as easily as Surya live on the sun, gliding about on plasma sails extending from the fins/spine/tail and filtering needed materials from the carbon & ice dust much how true whales once filtered krill from the oceans. As a personal preference, I'd likely spend the additional 5 cp for a cyber brain (Rimward 187) to allow easier forking, drop another 20cp on the Personal Power Plant (Gatecrashing 153) to allow the morph to travel farther from Saturn's rings without starving & suffocating, and probably put in a skin pocket to store small manipulator-based robots in, as neo-whales notoriously do not use arms/hands themselves. For extra equipment I'd include a "worn" radio farcaster so the character could fork his ego and farcast it out on Firewall missions. The farcaster and robots would be the only non-implanted gear the character owns. On missions the character would prefer info-morphs over living in a humanoid body. None of those preferences are listed below. Space Whale (BIOMOPRH) Essentially a morph matching the size and capabilities of a small space craft, the "space whale" is originally based on neo-blue whale genetics, this morph is further modified with a host of genetic, cybernetic, and nanotech implants allowing it live among Saturn's rings. Plasma sails implants provides movement in space, and host of complicated implants, including a high quality maker, allows the organism to survive on a diet of oxygen, water, and trace organic materials from the particles of Saturn’s rings. Additional chemical & dietary materials are need about once a month to maintain the morph's health and systems. Further modifications includes a T-ray emmiter/radiation sense system connected to the echolocation interpreting regions of the whale brain instead of the standard optical setup of human like morphs. Implants: Anti-Glare, Basic Biomods, Basic Mesh Inserts, Carapace Armor, Cortical Stack, Echolocation, Enhanced Hearing, Enhanced Respiration, Enhanced Vision, Gas Jet System (Sun 166), Hibernation, Long Term Life-support (Rim 189), Medichines, Oxygen Reserve (whale biology), Oxygen Reserve (air-tank implant), Plasma Sail Implant (rim 189), Radiation Sense, Radiation Tolerance (Rim 189), Temperature Tolerance [Cryonic] (Rim 189), T-ray Emitter, Vacuum Sealing Movement Rate: Swim (16/40), Plasma Sail .01g acceleration Aptitude Maximum: 30 Durability: 100 Wound Threshold: 20 Advantages: +5 COO, +5 INT, +5 SOM, +5 to one other aptitude of the player’s choice, +40 Swimming skill, Ramming Attack (2d10 DV, use Unarmed Combat skill), 11/11 Carapace Armor Disadvantages: Neo-whales lack a sense of smell and count as a very large target in combat (+30 to hit) CP Cost: 149 Credit Cost: Expensive (exceptionally rare; minimum 149,000) Edit: I could have sworn I had seen a note/mod/something in one of the books about morphs or egos and the ability to cross sensory inputs or process them in non-standard ways. I've dug around in the various books I have, but can't find it. Either I'm thinking of something else (like a different game or concept) or I'm missing it... but I thought it might help flesh out he ultrasound/radar blend.
