Hello everyone
Me and some friends are going to start playing Eclipse Phase. To save time the GM says we can start making a character and fine tune it later. I have the core book and JMobius thingie to help me and i know what character i want but i just can't get it right. I think we are going to do a gatecrash or back to old earth.
Concept is: He was an engineer in nanotech and robotics making small gadgets and robots for other peoples. In his free time he liked to play computer games, like Commandos or Call of Duty. So, when the Fall came (if that is what you say) he helped others getting to safety using the skill he got from the games and what gadgets he had. But not having trained the body only the mind he died.
Luckily the cortical stack got saved and some of those he saved got him a new body (a Ghost morph?). Now using the new body he is out doing a mission here and there honing his skills and having fun and finding alien/ TITAN tech and playing war games for real.
My thoughts are that he uses remote controlled micro launcher or other fun stuff he makes attacking from one side and he from another
What skills, traits and gears do he need to be good at that? The point limit is 1000 and any tips is most welcome.
/H

The jmobius character sheet
The jmobius character sheet can be daunting to look at but it walks you right through the process and checks off your creation points as you spend them.
I'll give you a few pointers for character creation but maybe someone with some hosting space or more time can either whip you up a sheet or walk you through the process via a G+ hangout or somesuch.
So you want to be an Engineer, that's great it means that you want to sink a lot of points into the Hardware skill. Hardware needs a field which is offers you and specifies what type of engineering you do. So you might take Hardware: Nanotech, Hardware: Robotics, Hardware: Armorer and so on. That covers the 'building' side of the character.
As for weapons, if you want to use seeker weapons take the Seeker weapon skill.
Since it sounds like you want to 'Jam'* drones armed with these you'll probably want to take skills like Gunnery (for when you 'Jam' big ordinance), Flight (for said Jamming) and probably Pilot (Ground, Air, Anthroform) for good measure. Since you should be running low on mandatory active skills, probably take a few points in 'Fray' (allows you to dodge), Programming (so you can actually create scripts and programs for your built items or drones) and so on.
Inactive or Knowledge Skills are just as easy. Take Interest: Pre-Fall Video Games, Interest: Post-Fall Video Games, Academics: Nano-engineering, Academics: Xeno-archaeology, Art: Creative Insults (from your pre-fall days of COD 74 on the XBOX 3600), and basically spend the rest of your inactive skills on things that give your character more personality.
As for your attributes; build according to character. You probably have a highish COG score since you're an academic, possibly a good COO score because twitch reflexes help you play COD. The rest is really up to you, since it's not really possible to 'cheese' your attributes as they all go toward something important anyway, just spend according to what makes most sense for the character itself.
Anyway, hope that helped. If you get a chance, grab your GM and sit back and work together on trying to figure out the character sheet. Trust me, it'll click eventually and if you have more rules based questions, ask away. Though this topic probably belongs on 'General Discussion' rather than homebrew.
*Jamming means piloting via linked in drone, can refer to remote control of said drone, but if it's remote control you want to take points in 'Pilot' and specify 'Ground', 'Air' or 'Anthroform'.

Thank you, that helps a lot
Thank you, that helps a lot with my skills and gives me more ideas for my gadgets. First i was thinking more of stationary things with guns but flying or moving does make more sense(doh). Got to love the Art: Creative Insults :)
And can an mod move this to General Discussion if it fits better there.
