So I'm finally sat down to work my way through my first character creation. As gaming tradition dictates, I'll be sticking to a simple concept: a brainless sociopathic monster impelled only by an overpowering lust for profit, murder and destruction. He's a man who's the best: with guns, with knives, with his bare hands... A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke! ... you get the idea.
I believe the Ultimates would be a good starting faction for this character. But I envision him being the product of an extreme cabal within that faction. He retains no memories or records of his life before his service to them began. He was effectively mindwiped, resleeved and raised anew to be, so to speak, the ultimate Ultimate, unpolluted by foreign memes like peace, love and forgiveness.
However this extremist breeding project is deemed an obscene failure by most Ultimates, as its only results are a batch of unindividuated drones whose slavish deference to authority sits at odds with the warrior-philosopher individualism of the faction at large. Thus the Frankensteinian creator and his monsters come to find themselves shunned by all decent-minded Ultimates and eventually hunted like mangy dogs.
Amidst this intrafactional fracas is where this character's story will begin: is he really a mindless drone enslaved to his master's every whim, or has he been faking it all along in a masterful scheme to ensure his own freedom?
As I develop this concept, I realise I'm getting closer and closer to making him an exhuman, which raises some interesting possibilities.
Is there such a chasm between the thinking of Ultimates and Exhumans? Do they collaborate at all, or do the former's reverence of human potential sit at odds with the latter's desire to transcend humanity altogether?
This guy's immediate destiny lies somewhere between these two factions, and so here's a good opportunity to explore the differences and similarities between fucked-up and fucked-upperer.
Thoughts? Links to foolishly-overlooked prior discussions on this very topic? Either's good.
