Conversion to SR4-like dice pool?
I've been having Shadowrun on my mind for the past couple of months, having managed to get a group together who. Unfortunately, EP was passed up and I wonder often if it's percentile system is too daunting, both in character generation and combat. I ran the QSR scenario with another group of friends who've played CoC/Basic Roleplaying and Warhammer Fantasy and, even though both those use percentile mechanics, they found the EP ruleset to be overly complex when it came to combat. As I said, I have Shadowrun on my mind, and could not stop from noticing the similarities between EP and SR4 ruleset. One of those things I've been debating with myself is that if it would be easier to convert EP into SR4 or an SR4-similar ruleset. I've done some basic math with the conversions (such as dividing Aptitudes and other skills down by 5 ratio; dividiing average DVs, APs, Durability, and Wound Thresholds by 3) and possibly fudging the rules in some places (such as melee weapons, as the average DV before SOM actually gives a higher damage value than SR; and possibly leaving armor ratings alone, as "1 hit adds 1 box of damage" will jack up damage from single hits). Is this a lost cause or is it something that people would actually want? I'd like to transition SR groups easier to EP. Also, converted stats for morphs bring up some interesting questions (Flats would actually have max of a 4 BODY/STR and not a 6, like in SR4, which asks the question is 4 is reachable with training and exercise, while 6 only reachable with good genetics?)

Being familiar with both systems, and being in groups that use the Dice system from one Game in another (to get around issues like having complex rules like in EP), I would say it is easier to just use the SR4 rules out of the box and place the EP setting into it. You can match credits to newyen and rep to Availability (roughly, you will have to tinker to get it right for your campaign). You will have to create the various new vehicles in EP (I believe the rules in Arsenal can help out). The key to egos and morphs would be that egos would be your mental attributes only, while your morph would be your physical attributes. Metatypes can be matched to different morph types (again tweak as needed) and only use Psionics (Street Magic) for magic (no conjuring or enchanting allowed).

The hardest part would be translating the damage and armor mechanic. I would suggest scrapping it and replacing it with something more akin to Shadowrun's system, or keeping it as is. There really isn't a way to do it halfway and use dicepools in the context of damage in Eclipse Phase's mechanics, it would just work weird. Go with one or the other. The rest of the ideas are solid. Divide your EP scores by 5 to get your SR equivalents. But don't change the stats over to Shadowrun stats. While some aptitudes will match up with attributes (Intuition is Intuition, Iognition is Intelligence, Willpower is Willpower, Savvy is Charisma), the others will not (Somatics is not the same as Strength, nor is Coordination the same as Agility or Reflexes the same as Reaction, despite what it might seem; they're all mental attributes). Reputation might be a little difficult to work out, but you might be able to use a modified version of Public Awareness to do the job (each reputation system being a different form of public awareness, and not a single cumulative value like in SR). Lastly, Moxie can translate directly into Edge with little difficulty, and that's probably your best bet because any other option may be simply too confusing.

Remember that aptitudes are not tied to the morph, but to the ego. This is one significant difference between Shadowrun and Eclipse Phase that you will have to make note of. To that end, the aptitude caps simply represent the upper limit for how far a person can push a body. It does not necessarily cap your ability to do something (which is actually better represented by your skill values, which are capable of getting to 99 despite aptitude limits). In essence, unlike Shadowrun, all aptitudes are "mental attributes".
