I knew someone would ask this question :)

That is an artist's depiction of a Pandora Gate found on an exoplanet. I'll be honest and say that it's not quite how I envision the gates looking, but in the confusion of switching from one art director to another, not all of the artists got the notes and feedback they should have :P We do describe the Pandora gates as a group of black arms shaped in a sort of dome or hollow half-sphere, with the arms made of some exotic matter that are shaped in different patterns and that move and reshape when new coordinate are plugged in, so maybe this is how one looks when it's been unearthed :)
